Faculty of Agriculture

The Department of Agricultural Sciences aims at achieving excellence in academics and research. Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in Agriculture are offered by Faculty of Agriculture . The Department offers four years course in B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture and two years Masters programme in various Agriculture disciplines. The Department has designed dynamic and focused curricula as per the guidelines of Indian Council of Agricultural research (ICAR) to develop well-trained manpower for academics, agro-based industry and extension oriented applications. For agriculture courses, Rabindranath Tagore University in Raisen District is the best University. Department also focuses on inculcating the ethical and moral values in students. Students are motivated to interact with the farmers and participate actively in seminars, symposia, conferences and workshops. The thrust areas of the department include multi-disciplinary research in the fields of agriculture and its allied ventures.
The department has eminent and highly qualified faculty with research experience in the current areas of Agriculture and allied Sciences. The Department is well-equipped with spacious classrooms and laboratories to provide quality teaching and research opportunities for the students. The students are also imparted training in the field through conduct of research trials and demonstrations.

Towards the end of the programme, students will be able to:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of different streams of agriculture like agronomy, entomology, plant breeding, plant pathology, soil science etc. in practice.
  2. An ability to identify, critically analyzes, formulate and solve Agriculture economics and marketing problems.
  3. An ability to design a system and process to meet desired needs of food and nutrition with the knowledge of protected cultivation and Post-Harvest Technology.
  4. An ability to devise and conduct experiments, interpret data and provide well informed conclusions.
  5. An ability to understand the practical problems faced by farmers and to find a proper solution for it.
  6. An ability to be competent professionally with ethical responsibility as an individual as well as in multidisciplinary teams with positive attitude.
  7. To produce well informed socially responsible global citizen with sharp critical thinking skills having sound awareness about Government policies and programmes related to Agriculture (Extension &Economics).
  8. An ability to devise communication and Extension methodologies for transfer of Agricultural Technologies.

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of different streams of agriculture like agronomy, plant breeding, soil science etc. in practice.
  2. An ability to apply the various soil and plant sciences to soil management and crop production; scientificagriculture and helping students to develop their analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills from classical to molecular genetics.
  3. An ability to design a system and process as permodern concepts in crop production, physiology of
    drought, herbicides and crop production, physiological aspect of crop yield, principles of crop nutrition,
    physiology of crop plants, advanced irrigation agronomy, agricultural research organizations, advanced
    crop ecology, applied conservation agronomy, arid zone agronomy, cropping and farming systems and
    agro-meteorology.
  4. An ability to devise and conduct experiments, interpret data and provide well informed conclusions.
  5. An ability to understand the practical problems faced by farmers and to find a proper solution for it.
  6. An ability to be competent professionally with ethical responsibility as an individual as well as in multidisciplinary teams with positive attitude.

As a result of completing this program, students should be able to

  1. An understanding of plant breeding objectives, modes of reproduction and genetic consequences, breeding methods for crop improvement.
  2. To provide insight into structure and functions of chromosomes, chromosome mapping, polyploidy and cytogenetic aspects of crop evolution.
  3. An ability to apply knowledge of general principles of radiation and various tests/methods for detection of radiation effects on the living cells, genetic risks involved and perspectives of advances made.
  4. An ability to teach about optimization of irrigation in different crops under variable agroclimatic conditions
  5. An ability to handle various types of stresses in crop production and strategies to overcome them.
  6. An ability to understand computation skills regarding component of variation and variances, scales, mating designs and gene effects.
  7. An understanding of theory of production costs and sets out to provide a basic understanding of price and / or output determination under different types of market structures including factor markets.
  8. An ability to practically apply various skills to use biotechnological tools in crop improvement.

Minor and Major examinations will be for 3 hours duration each, covering entire syllabus.
