Ph.D. Fruit Science is a minimum three-year doctor of philosophy course studying the enhancement of the production of fruits and plantation crops. Development of field, laboratory, and documentation facilities for research on fruit crops Along with the improvement of tropical, subtropical, and temperate fruit and plantation crops, as well as the development of post-harvest technology and value-added products, we are also aiming for the improvement and overall development of the entire horticulture field through the implementation of various schemes.

  • PO1: Students will gain knowledge of the concepts and principles of pomology.
  • PO2: Detailed knowledge of the production of fruit plants by a skilled person The main aim of pomologists is to increase plant growth, quality, nutritional value, yield, and resistance to insects, diseases, and environmental stresses.
  • PO3: Pomologists are needed in nurseries, orchard management, agricultural companies, genetic companies, agricultural produce companies, and the food industry.
  • PO4: Develop innovative agro-techniques to enhance the production and productivity of horticultural crops.
  • PO5: Conservation and exploitation of biological diversity through crop management
  • PO6: Prolong the post-harvest storage life of horticultural commodities, increase income through value addition of the products, and reduce post-harvest losses.

  • PSO1: Specific knowledge of various branches specialised for their studies
  • PSO2: Detailed knowledge on the subject will improve the farmer’s condition through their contributions.
  • PSO3: Students having a combined knowledge of Fruit Science with entrepreneurial skills permit them to get administrative or marketing positions with organisations involved in the processing and marketing of fruits; they also get recruited into the companies as horticulturists, gardeners, supervisors, and farm managers, handling large-scale production of certain varieties of fruits in various private seed companies.
